About Us

The Cabarrus Guards, N.C. Camp 1837, was organized in September 1999 by descendants of Confederate Veterans. These men wanted to preserve the memory of their North Carolina Confederate ancestors and give the Southern perspective of The War Between the States.

Our Camp is located in Concord, n.c. and is in the Southern Piedmont Brigade of the NC Division of The Sons of Confederate Veterans.

Our mission is to promote, preserve, and protect our North Carolina Confederate history in an accurate, historical, and compassionate manner as we remain loyal patriots to the Constitution and our Nation.

Members of Camp 1837 strive to foster an atmosphere of camaraderie as we serve our community and nation, just as our Confederate ancestors did.

Flag and Wreath Placement

Each year on Confederate Veterans Memorial Day and Veterans Day, the Cabarrus Guards place flags on the graves of Confederate soldiers who have been laid to rest in surrounding cemeteries. Our members also work in conjunction with Wreaths Across America to place remembrance wreaths on Confederate soldier grave sites during the Christmas season.

Community Involvement

The Guards work with local Cabarrus County communities to repair and/or replace damaged Confederate headstones in surrounding cemeteries. We also are involved with the Cabarrus County American Legion in activities to honor all of our North Carolina military veterans. The Guards also support and attend North Carolina Civil War battle re-enactments throughout the year. We actively support the acquisition and preservation of Civil War battlefields for future generations through the American Battlefield Trust.

Continuing Education

The Cabarrus Guards promote and support factual, historically correct, Civil War events and information through historical books. photographs, and objects. We are excited to share the rich and varied histories of our Confederate ancestors with others who have a genuine interest in learning more about that period in American history. Our monthly meetings feature various speakers who present a historical perspective on the Civil War, as well as WW1 and WW2, the Korean War, Vietnam War, etc.
